That's not all they need but is definitely at the top of the list in my opinion. LVG really needs to try and sign someone before the close of the window otherwise they aren't going to be contending for top 4 to be honest regardless of the quality they have going forward. (Falcao, Di Maria, Mata, Rooney, RVP etc.)

I honestly think Man U are going to struggle for a top 4 finish to be honest I mean can you really see them finishing above Chelsea or City I doubt it. Even have looked very good so far to be honest so that's 3/4 positions that are most likely going to be occupied, Arsenal need a new striker as was evident against Leicester yesterday and Spurs have issues they need to sort out but even so the contention is going to be very high for that 4th spot especially if players like Lukaku can perform like they did last season for Everton. I personally don't think United will make top 4 but who knows it's the premier league and anything can happen to be honest.

Let alone finishing above City or Chelsea, can you see the current United side finishing above Arsenal/Liverpool/Everton/Tottenham? I'm not convinced.

I don't think they will. They have such a terrible defence regardless of who they have going forward. Also I think the squad morale is so low at the moment and they don't actually believe they are going to win, compare that to teams like Liverpool who look like a very tight unit. Obviously Man U don't have CL football so that may help them a little when it comes to the big clubs dropping points but Chelsea and City especially have ridiculous squad depth. Old Trafford used to be a fortress where teams would be fearful to play there. Not any more. When they are getting thumped 4-0 away at MK Dons I think it's the epitome of what's happening within the club. We will see what LVG does today though.

One thing about these recent signings even if not needed, it proved that United is such a big club they can attract big name players even without CL football. I recall 90% of people on this thread said we were not going to sign any big name players.

And if you fail to get CL football this season also? Will the likes of Falcao & Di Maria stay? Will you be able to rebuild the team you once had? Will you be able to build a team capable of getting top 4?

Well if you fail to get CL football for 3-4 seasons, there would be major financial troubles & why wouldn't players join Man City instead, who they can fulfil all of their ambitions at?

As happy as I am about United signing Falcao I would be much happier if Van Gaal signed top defender(s)

100% agree, I am stoked for the signing and I wouldn't say no to him. But defenders are not experienced enough especially with the expectations that everyone had.
