Hi, i'd be glad of advice...
I have Windows 10 pc. To upgade to Windows 11 seems I need to upgade the cpu. Bit rusty on such things. I understand my motherboard and cpu are socket 1151. So which would be a good new cpu to purchase and install. I'm a non-gamer? Was looking at eg Core i5 8400, 8500, 8600, 9400, 9500, 9600 And..will it an easy task to remove existing cpu and replace with new? (and TPM 2 must be supported and enabled..unsure what that is about?) Hi,
Any of those CPU's you listed would be perfectly suitable for your needs, especially considering you're not using the machine to game, it would just be a case of what you're happy to spend. I feel the best budget CPU listed would be the 8600k, otherwise you could go for the best one you mentioned, the 9600. Ideally the newer the better in that it'll be slightly better in terms of future proofing - if they release something that requires a newer CPU. Changing the CPU's over is relatively simple, with a stock Intel fan it's just a case of unplugging the cable, and then there's a clip on each side of the cooler with an arrow, just simply twist the clip in the way the arrow points, lift the clips up, and it should just then pull off. If you're never changed a CPU over, I'd recommend just watching over this video for a clearer view on how to do so than me explaining, likewise with the Intel cooler if it's any easier; (If you intend on changing the CPU yourself, buy some thermal paste off Amazon - any will do, Artic, SYY etc.. if you've never thermal pasted a CPU before, I will leave another video below on how to do so) Intel Cooler Removal - CPU Change - Thermal Paste - With TPM 2.0, it's just a case of making sure it's enabled in the bios - upon booting the PC on, push the DEL key, this should bring you into the bios, head to Advanced\PCH-FW Configuration, and enable PTT. It may already be enabled, in which case leave it as so. TPM may already be enabled, so to save the fuss of doing that, try check to see whether you can upgrade to 11 beforehand, otherwise if it says TPM needs to be enabled/supported, do this. |
