Hello everyone,
I had the opportunity to recover an old PC and I wanted to take the opportunity to upgrade it to replace my current laptop. Having a relatively tight budget, I started from the principle of changing some components even if it means changing others the day I would have higher income. So, for example, invest in a good motherboard that can serve me for a long time. The objective is to hold out over time.

What are you opinion about it ? WatchingFromAFar wrote I'd probably try get an i7 6xxxk over the i5 Huh? An i7-6700k? A 5+ year old 4C/8T CPU over a modern 6C/12T? Why? OP- what is your budget in Euros? Kind of pointless looking at parts in the US using USD if you'll be buying in France. Availability and pricing will differ greatly so different specific parts will make sense in France than would make sense in America. |

WatchingFromAFar wrote More cores/threads doesn't have much of an impact on gaming. So you'd buy a 5 year old CPU? Whether or not cores/threads have "much of an impact on gaming", the i5-10400 still at least matches the 6700k in gaming performance, or it just straight up beats the 6700k. The extra cores+threads will absolutely make a difference in editing/rendering though, like in DaVinci Resolve. Source- techspot.com/review/2032-intel-core-i5-10400/ No 6700k, but the 7700k is in there and that's basically just an overclocked 6700k anyway. The i5 is newer, faster, and has more cores/threads. It definitely makes more sense to get the i5-10400(F) than an i7-6700k. |
