Hi,

I currently use my PC for gaming only, most of which is World of Warcraft, and I am wanting to improve this as it currently runs at <10fps when anything is happening. The task manager seems to show my RAM and Memory as being the biggest issue and then my GPU. Now I'm not sure if I would be better upgrading specific items or starting a new as I have a very limited budget.

What is your budget and currency? £400
What do you use the PC for? Gaming, but only want to play on middle ground graphics w/ smoother FPS

Current specs are;
Intel Core i5-2320, 1TB HDD, 2x4GB Ram, Nvidia GeForce GT 520

I have been told there are better PCs for such a small budget and that upgrading components would be a waste but at the same time I've been told a GTX1650 and 8GB ram cards would sort my problems. I'm just not sure where to go for more advice on which way to go with this?

Many thanks,

Ryan

Honestly you could do with a good new PC if you saved 200 more..?

If you mean I could upgrade the PC for £600 then that's not very helpful. The budget is what it is for a reason, I can save more but cannot justify spending more than one overtime shift on my PC. I'm just wanting to know of the two choices I have which would be the better way about it.

Building a new system is probably the better option at this point, but with 400 quid you would have to make sacrifices on every single components, hence why LSX said another 100-200 quid would do you well towards just building a nice new PC.

Since your budget is £400, I'd rather just re-use your current CPU, than spend the full budget on a new system and make sacrifices everywhere, so here;
PCPartPicker Part List

Storage: Kingston A2000 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (£44.98 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6 GB VENTUS XS OC Video Card (£209.99 @ AWD-IT)
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower Case (£79.99 @ AWD-IT)
Power Supply: Corsair TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply (£69.95 @ CCL Computers)
Total: £404.91

Re-use your current CPU, Mobo, and RAM.
Add another 8GB RAM if you want, 8GB of DDR3 shouldn't be more than 15-20 quid on the used market.

You can save £15 on the case if you want by getting the P400A without RGB fans. Although, you should really add your own case fans then anyway, which will cost you 10-15 quid easily.
Phanteks P300A(£50) is another option if you want a cheaper case, but again could use some extra case fans.

You can save about a tenner on the PSU by swapping the TX550M for a Corsair CX450M, but it's not worth it for the sake of ten quid IMHO, just hold on to the TX550M.

I agree fully however ignore the m.2 under storage, no way your motherboard will support that technology. Do the cpu/motherboard at a later date with a budget of £400 and go ryzen, that with the already mentioned would be a solid system, however your budget limits options as wow is not the easy game it used to be to run
