I am thinking of getting into PC gaming, and it seems that the general consensus is that building one is the best way to go. I still plan on using my console for most regular gaming but on certain games I want to get into modding on PC. My question is, what is a reasonably priced PC build that can run well with mods? I don't really know anything about what makes a good gaming PC but I don't want to spend $1000 on a PC. The cheaper the better as long as it meets my needs.

I'm not going to get on here and act like I'm an expert when it comes to the best parts or what not, but I have build my own PC along with friends. Honestly you don't need to spend $1000 on a PC for it to play AAA games and run mods. You can easily build a PC for $600 and be able to experience that & more.

That's a good price range. Do you know what equipment you used or where I can look for a build like it?

I used the new AMD Ryzen 5 , but if you want to save a little more money you can go with the 3 . Also are you looking to do any overclocking or heavy duty multi-tasking ?

Not sure. Like I said I'm new to pc gaming and only plan on using for certain games, at least until I get a feel for it and know what I'm doing. The only other thing I plan on using it for is basic things like file storage, college work, and iTunes. I don't plan on streaming or recording anything.

No one can really tell you how much your budget should be. Only you can dictate your budget.

We'd be happy to help you with a parts list, once you have your budget figured out, but we can't tell you how much to spend.

If you want help with a parts list, we'll need the following information;
Your maximum budget/currency.
What exactly will the system be used for? (already know this- basic tasks, and some gaming/modding)
Do you need a monitor within budget? If not, what monitor(s) will you be using?
Do you need any other peripherals- kb, mouse, etc?
Anything else?

Budget: Definitely under $1000 and cheap as possible as long as it can run with my requirements effectively .
Monitor/Mouse: I'm not to worried about this aspect. The monitor can be whatever will work well enough with the pc. I already have a wireless iHome mouse that I have been using for my laptop but if it isn't enough I can buy a better one down the line.

So, I'm assuming you're buying in the US then.

In that case, if you're happy spending $1k, you can get a really solid overall system;
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor ($129.06 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard ($114.95 @ Amazon)
Memory: Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($94.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB WINDFORCE OC Video Card ($279.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Deepcool MATREXX 50 ATX Mid Tower Case ($51.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12III 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.98 @ Newegg)
Monitor: AOC C24G1 24.0" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor ($159.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $945.93

You get a nice 1080p144Hz monitor, and the R5 2600/GTX 1660Ti will be a nice match with this monitor.
You could save $50 by swapping the GTX 1660Ti for a GTX 1660;
pcpartpicker.com/product/DJCD4D/e...p4-1067-kr
although I'd only do this if you're going to overclock the GTX 1660, especially it's VRAM. At stock, it's a bit of a slouch so if you won't OC, the 1660Ti is absolutely worth the extra $50.

On the other hand, if you just want to save money, something like this would be fine;
PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor ($129.06 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Sabrent Rocket 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($59.98 @ Amazon)
Video Card: XFX Radeon RX 580 8 GB GTS XXX ED Video Card ($179.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Deepcool MATREXX 50 ATX Mid Tower Case ($51.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic S12III 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.98 @ Newegg)
Monitor: Acer SB220Q bi 21.5" 1920x1080 75 Hz Monitor ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $695.96

Smaller capacity SSD, and a much cheaper monitor. 1080p, but 75Hz instead of 144Hz. Since you won't need as much GPU power for this anyway, you can go with the RX 580 and save $100 over the 1660Ti.

Is there a different case that would work with this build besides the MATREXX 50 that doesn't have tempered glass? I don't want to spend extra just for a cosmetic feature.
