Hi Guys,

Looking for a 1TB M.2 SSD for storage for games.

I currently have a 2TB SSHD however wanting to upgrade.

Thanks

Budget? Currency?
Why m.2 specifically, have you got no space for a 2.5" drive?

Sh!t yeah... currency is Sterling. No real budget, just something reliable.

I have space for 2.5" however M.2 is quicker, in terms of read/write correct?

Thanks

No, not necessarily. m.2 is just a form factor, like 2.5". So, there is an m.2 and 2.5" version of the Samsung 860 EVO, both will perform the same since they're both the same SATA SSD, just in different form factors. You're thinking of NVMe SSD's(instead of SATA), which mostly come in m.2 form factor. There are still some 2.5" NVMe SSD's, though I've not seen one in a looong time. Also, worth noting that your motherboard needs to support the NVMe SSD if that's what you buy, and you need to use the right m.2 slot, otherwise you'll be limited to SATA speeds anyway.

Also, for a game drive, NVMe speeds aren't really necessary. You won't notice much difference with an NVMe SSD in lots of situations, especially game loading times. It's going to be more beneficial in things like video editing/rendering.

Here's your budget 1TB SSD option;
uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/vRWfr...z-76q1t0bw
It's a SATA SSD, will perform similarly to an 860 EVO but has a 3 year warranty, instead of 5 year warranty on the 860 EVO.
Here's the 860 EVO;

This also has a higher endurance rating than the 860 QVO, but there are better options than the 860 EVO anyway so I wouldn't bother with it at this point.

Crucial MX500 is a good shout, and you can get the m.2 or 2.5" variant for about the same price;
uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/4Qw7Y...0mx500ssd4
uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/h3tQz...0mx500ssd1

However, I'd also avoid the MX500 for now because the Intel 660p is very well priced;

This is an NVMe SSD, instead of SATA like the 860 QVO, 860 EVO, and MX500. NVMe SSD's usually aren't worth the premium, but as you can see the 660p is cheaper than the 860 EVO and around the same price as the MX500, so it is actually a fairly reasonable option.. at this price.

So basically, for this price, nothing other than the 660p really makes much sense unless you just want the cheapest decent 1TB SSD, in which case the 860 QVO would be my choice.

And I take it the 660p would be suitable for my mobo: Asus PRIME Z370-A

Thanks

Would recommend having a look at this video before you make your purchase. It's not a big deal but still something to know
