My current setup is

7700K
Gigabyte 1070
16GB Ram 2300MHz

I also play on 1080p but plan on doing VR soon

Games are starting to feel a little for stressful to my CPU as far as temps go. My FPS isn't as high on newer games as well even on low settings.

Should I upgrade anything?

Shouldn't need anything upgrading to be honest. You could overclock the CPU if you haven't done already.

What cooler are you using that's giving you poor temps?

Playing on lower settings would reduce GPU usage and put more strain on the CPU, if anything. However, you should not have to resort to low settings in anything at 1080p with a 7700k and GTX 1070.

Is the 7700k at stock speeds, or overclocked? What exactly are the temperatures that you're uncomfortable with, and as Dan asked, what cooler are you using?

If you want to upgrade, we would need to know the rest of your specs, as well as your budget/currency and what exactly you're looking to achieve with the upgrade.

I also would agree that there isn't much reason to upgrade unless you have a 144Hz monitor, in which case a GPU upgrade would make more sense than CPU.

I have an NZXT Kraken x62 and no my CPU is no overclocked since I do not have much experience doing that. I also play on a 144hz monitor.

To redact my statement, my temps are not high but my CPU and GPU go above 90% when playing Apex Legends (does not happen on any other game). But to my knowledge this is an issue with the games optimization, not my parts.

Here are my exact specs: pcpartpicker.com/list/H743D2

My budget is around $1k-$1250
