So i have had a toshiba qosmio x500-149 since 2010 and this laptop has done us well for the last few years.

The poor little (not really at 17"+ ladies XD) thing (being serious now) has spent most of its life on, sweating away mostly on idle actually and never used to the max.

So the other day when it was being used it started to loose charge, 100% - 75% ect until dead, the thing as well is it has spent around 90% of its life plugged in while used and not used.

I have since taken it apart and no sign of visible damage to the two power intakes on the main board, or on the cable from the intake plug to the main board.

Using a volt meter on the psu no power seemed to be on the output solder points so would i be right to assume the power block is the fault? IMO it seems so i just wish to double check as these bricks cost about £50-60 and if the said laptop has now passed it would be better going to a new unit.

Notes to my deduction, the laptop slowly powered down, no bsod or other such faults ect
leds i have to admit, one for power and battery i can not remember what they were like during this time

The only thing with that is power typically goes direct to the board then the battery, so the battery would not be the issue, it must be the power going in as the fault

...the battery retains the charge..if its losing charge quickly its not going to be the power block lmao..that supplies the charge to the battery... if its losing battery quick and its always plugged in then its the battery..it always happens.

Take it to a local computer/electrical shop. See if they have a power pack that suits. Give it a try, if the power pack dont work, see if they have a spare battery you can try. This way you are not spending money to find out you got the wrong part.

The cirut on the board is as such, power outlet-power brick-power input-main board-then battery-return to main board if power input if false ect.

so if the brick died it would then rely on the battery however we could power the unit off just the power brick with no battery
