I'm thinking of upgrading my MOBO and CPU. I recently updated my graphics cards and although my PC runs very smooth I like the idea of having the best in my PC. I just want to get some input whether I should upgrade or if my MOBO/CPU combo still holds up. I built this PC originally in 2013 but have upgraded various parts as the years have gone by. Current build listed below. The main purpose of the PC is gaming. I know the MOBO/CPU can hold up to all new games with the current set up. I'm wondering if I will see any improvements in performance if I upgrade.

Additionally I would like to know if I upgrade what should I upgrade to. I've been happy with my ROG MOBO and would like to stick to intel (I have stock in Intel).

MOBO - Asus Rampage IV Black Edition
CPU - INTEL Core i7 4930K
Memory - 4x 8GB DDR3
Graphics - 2x GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
Storage - 3x 840 EVO 1TB

I mean... you already have a 6 core i7, it is older but still a workhorse.

You really do not need to upgrade with your current set up.

But... if you do decide to, you will need new ram as well.

I was in a similar situation, didn't NEED to upgrade but said F it.

I personally would get a new case, psu while you're at it to make it feel like a new build because
it seems like money isn't an issue based off your build.

EDIT: I didn't really answer your improvement question, well I personally went from a i7 6700 to a i7 8700k and on specifically Rainbow Six Siege I went from 160-190 FPS to 200 - 240 FPS just with the CPU upgrade, upgraded nothing else, video settings I even bumped up a bit. But with all my other games really saw no improvement (Pubg, Overwatch, LoL, WoW). So it just depends on what you play.

You have 2 1080 Tis but still rocking an old CPU/RAM/MOBO?

Yeah you can upgrade as that is getting a little older, but i would go all out and change the rest while you are at it, obvs keep the GPU's and the SSD's

but change the rest of your rig.

You can go with the 8700, CRYORIG - M9i Cooler, ASRock - H370 Pro4 MOBO, Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB RAM, EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 PSU, NZXT - H500 Case.

If you want more advice then follow the sticky as it will help us more if we know a budget and preferences you have.

To know if it will improve performance we would need to know what you are doing with the build, but obviously upgrading a system will make it perform better it just depends if its worth it to you

8700K & H370 Board... really? That makes no sense as it completely removes the ability to overclock.

OP's system is fine, that CPU is still strong especially if it's being overclocked. Christ a 3770 is still a strong chip and that's a 2012 chip.

Unless OP has no care for money, that CPU and Mobo will still do just fine.

Guess so, it all depends on what he does with the system, the fact he has 2 1080 TI's but then the older gear and i mean yeah kinda diddnt mean to put the k on the end of the CPU as its a big price difference, but it all depends on what he does with it in the first place.

Mad thread.

There's honestly no need to upgrade IMO, a 4930k is still a super solid CPU for gaming. You would see an improvement if you went with an 8700k or something though. So if you do want to upgrade, you will get better performance. SLI 1080Ti's and an HEDT CPU(albeit an old one) is obviously an enthusiast build, and I understand the want to upgrade just because, so only you can decide whether or not it's worth it.
Remember if you do want to upgrade, you can at least sell the old parts to get some of that money back lol.

If you want to upgrade, we'd be happy to help but need some more information.
What monitor(s) are you using with your system?
What games will you be playing, and what else do you use your system for?
What case and PSU do you have?
What CPU cooler do you have?
What is your budget and currency for upgrades?
I'm assuming you'll want an unlocked CPU since you already have an enthusiast grade system.

and it even has 2 less cores than OP's CPU lol

@Saxbyyy - CPU's have been making very minor improvements for almost a decade now. A 4930k is still perfectly adequate. Like you said though, what he uses the system for is important information.
