I just had to get emergency surgery on my appendix and I have to get it removed ( this was Friday ) and I was able to go home Saturday morning and I am now recovering. The Doctor said it will be 4-6 weeks til a full recovery and that I can NOT pick up anything heavier than a milk jug ( 5 pounds ) So i have no idea what I am supposed to do because I am not able to work either because my job is outside and requires heavy lifting. I was also prescribed Percocets and I am kinda scared to take them because I have always been kinda sketchy on the narcotics. Anyone have any tips on what I can do to make my life easier lol

Do exactly what the doctor says.

I had an emergency appendectomy when I was 10 and it sucked. Take the medicine as prescribed and it will help. It'll take that long to FULLY recover, but you dont have to be fully recovered to do things. I got back on the baseball field 3 weeks after it, I just didn't play 100%. You know your limits, don't go past them.

I'm going for Surgery soon on my Hernia and I was told it will heal within 4-6 weeks and that I can't lift anything but have to keep moving to keep blood circulating. My job requires heavy lifting as I'm a Civil Engineer but I was told I will not be able to work as I will tear open my hernia etc.

So the best thing to do is to do light activities (which is quite difficult on site) or you'll have to be signed off sick till your all healed up otherwise you'll damage yourself.

You just need to take it easy man, it's really gonna suck but it's better for you in the long run.
Just chill in bed, play some video games and talk to friends, scroll through social media and YouTube, if you have a girlfriend or close friends invite them over just to keep you some company, or use the time to catch up with your parents.

I'm really sorry about what happened, my dad had the same thing happen a long time ago and he still describes it as one of the most excrutiating pains he's ever felt. I'm glad you got through it and have made it home.

I know it sucks, especially for a long period of time, to just lay in bed and relax, do nothing. But it's what has to be done right now man, listen to the doctor.

Your best bet would be to take it easy and hang around home until you're fully recovered.

It's best not to push your limits, so if you know your limit stay within it. Don't do anything to over exhaust yourself or don't do to much that you can't or shouldn't be doing.

Like tricks said wait until your third week at least before you start doing anything like physical activities, etc.

Okay to clean up the whole lifting of weights

The reason behind this, you had an organ removed and as useless as the organ was, it had a very large amount of blood flowing to it

So if you lift anything that strains your stomach muscles or any muscles in that area you will rip the internal stitches

The area of the stitching is large enough that if you burst the stitches there's a real chance of internal bleeding which would lead to hypovolemic shock within 30 minutes or so(you will know if you've burst your stitches so don't worry about it going un-noticed

As for narcotics, I take a synthetic opioid known as tramadol, if you're in the states, that's almost equal to Oxycotin

If you are in real pain, a narcotic won't give you a "buzz" so to speak, it will deal with the pain vs giving you a high

Stay relatively withing the prescription guidelines and you'll be fine

Honestly don't jump the gun on lifting to early or it will be a lot worse in the long run
