Im currently training myself to join a college basketball program or football league. Here's what I recommend:
-Dyanmic stretches before you train
-Step Ladder Drills (add weights over your shoulder to get the feeling of having weighted pads start small though, i use 30 lb dumbbells try 5 lb dumbbells to begin with)
-Box jumps
-Core exercises for 5 minutes, 3 minute break
-Parachute sprints
-Deadlifts, Squats, Rows
-jump rope
-JUMP AROUND JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP
* the more you jump the more you're on toes so you'll be able to make more split second decision and add quickness to your feet
-Foam roll before and after training

I've always been a fan of backs who run through people, not around them. Honestly you can get both by doing short sprints daily and working out your legs.

I'd practice cuts and knowing when to explode and when to hesitate. I know you said you already feel you are good with your runningback IQ but it is important for speed. Knowing when to wait and when to burst is half the battle in saving your energy when you need to be fast.

Good luck and I hope you do well this next season. Update us if you got faster or stronger.

scrap the treadmill. bad for your joints, impact is to hard on them. Do Hiit training, Plyometrics and heavy weight lifting.and stretching your legs, flexibility very needed to be explosive and fast. Make sure to hit your glutes and hip flexors, very crucial to have them strong as those can have a big impact on how explosive you will be and can be.

you can improve your speed but not dramatically it kinda depends what muscle fibre type your body is dominant in, just hope your not in the Fibre 1/

I have recently come back from injury ( broken fibula ) so a nice topic to read as most of those stuff I wouldn't think of doing. I am currently trying to get my fitness up and then later on I will move back to weights.
