Hi guys
this is roughly what my current build looks like [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
cannot find my ram on there but it is 16gb or hyper X something or other
yes I know something maybe a bit overkill such as my case and possibly my powersupply
I have just upgraded my monitor to a 1440p 144hz I have a feeling my CPU may be holding me back a little as it reachs 95%+ useage while gaming at and I assume this is what is making me drop frames
would like to know which direction I should head AMD or stick with Intel
keep me below £500 and Ill be very happy
Thanks, all advice is welcome and appriciated.

I dont think you should upgrade anything. CPU shouldn't be holding you back much, if at all at 1440p. GPU is going to be your bottleneck. Maybe grab a 6700k or 7700k if you can find a used one at a decent price but your 6600k is definitely still fine.
Honestly, Id be aiming for an upgrade to a Volta xx80Ti class GPU when it launches. Other than that, more storage if you want/need it?

Yeah then thats what Id go for. Add another SSD and/or HDD for now and then upgrade GPU either next generation, or in 2 generations. Or you might even be able to add a 2nd GTX 1080 super cheap once Volta releases.
