One useful app I use sets it so that for my alarm to go off, I have to take a small test to get my brain going in the morning. It's a good way to keep on top of your knowledge as well as waking you up.
You could try waking earlier and doing some exercise. It is hard in the beginning due to the adjustment to your lifestyle but it is great once you are used to it.

A shower always helps me in the morning or just wiping my face off with a warm wash cloth a couple of times and a cup of coffee usually.
