FIFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Dele Alli after his obscene gesture during England's game with Slovakia.

Alli gestured with his middle finger during the 2-1 victory at Wembley on Monday, an act he claims was directed towards team-mate and friend Kyle Walker.

A FIFA spokesman said: "We can confirm that disciplinary proceedings have been opened following this incident. Please understand we cannot comment further at this stage."

Alli apologised on social media following England's game, claiming the gesture was intended for Walker and not French referee Clement Turpin.

England manager Gareth Southgate said Alli had assured him the gesture was meant in a light-hearted manner.

To me it seems like a harmless gesture between players but unfortunately the camera had to be
following Deli at the time he did it. Hopefully no ban is handed out.
