Shouldn't have to change anything else in BIOS. Just select USB CD/DVD something something in the boot menu. If it's not showing, then we are going to have to mess with the BIOS. Make sure you delete all of the windows 10 partitions on the HDD. That can be done when selecting the hard drive you want to install to.

You could do that and have it automatically boot to that device. Personally, I prefer to use the boot menu and choose the device instead of going and setting the order you want it to boot in BIOS. But, however, i don't think that is his issue because he is able to select the device and then it fails.

Just an update. I've bought a USB DVD drive and also a copy of windows 7 that I've used before multiple times to install on my other laptop.

Sames it was a waste as I still get the error 'No boot device -- Please restart system.

This is after booting the following:

USB
CD/DVD
LAN
HDD/SSD

same error on each.

I'm not sure why it's so hard. This laptop has never been easy to install OS on as I've tried windows 7 before to no avail, but any other OS like windows 8/10 and linux where ok.

Any other advice guys so I dont feel I wasted £40 on a disc drive for nothing? lol

It'll be an option in BIOS that's not letting it boot from USB/DVD. I used to have the problem occasionally. I don't have a Toshiba laptop at the moment so I can't remember what it was exactly but have you tried this:

This is the same problem I have, but my bios doesnt show the option to switch from UEFI to CSM boot.

Edit: I have however disabled secure boot in BIOS

His model is C55 but mines is C50.

Without the laptop in front of me, I don't know what else to suggest. Have you tried using a different USB port? try all of them as some could be defective. On boot try booting to boot options and select USB from there (If it shows up), think it's F12 on boot.

If you have another laptop you could put the hard drive from your Toshiba into it, from there install Windows onto that laptop, once the installation is finished move it back to the Toshiba?

You're not meant to do it but it sometimes works. This will work fine if both laptops are the same, I'd only do this if you're desperate.
