That's pretty scary to know what else lays out there , of course there are other life forms. It would be stupid to think otherwise ...

I'm not sure there is intelligent life here on Earth, let alone in space.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson said this in much more eloquent terms, but he essentially says:

Our closest relative is the chimpanzee and we share around 98% of our DNA with it. The smartest humans can launch satellites into space and the smartest chimps can do sign language. The difference between the smartest chimp and the smartest human is essentially in that 2% of DNA.
What if the difference between doing some basic sign language and launching a satellite isn't as big of a difference as we like to think it is. What if they are actually very close accomplishments to one another in terms of abilities of an intelligent being.

So then think about what happens if we encounter an alien species which is only 2% different from us in terms of intelligence in the same direction that we are different from the chimps.

Now this is me speaking again, you'll have to look up his talk if you want more of that ^

To me there are really only three options in this scenario and I'll go from what I think are the least likely to the most likely ones:

1) They put us in their versions of zoos and study us - I think this is unlikely because of the reasons why we study and keep animals in zoos and why they would probably be beyond the need/want to.
2) They kill us.
3) They completely ignore us because we are far too mundane and boring to them.

Think about it being a 10% difference, or a 20% difference. Still not that much, but we would still be as intelligent to them as ants are to us. Do we feel bad when we step on and kill an ant? Do we even notice a lot of the time? No.

Human hubris is the only thing which makes us think we will be any different.

I completely agree. I think it's ignorant to believe we are the only ones.

its ignorant to think its ignorant. there is a chance we are the last remaining life forms. i dont believe that but theres always a chance.

Agreed!
But they still are going to go and discover life because they want to study and see what it's all about. That's their job and them discovering life on other planets will never change

Well, we seek them in search of knowledge.

If we find them and they're friendly we could have a lot to learn.

If we find them, and they're not friendly... we know the threat exists out there.
