So I spoke with a friend over the weekend and they mentioned something that caught my eye for the xbox one and its called a beta tester? correct me if I'm wrong that's just how it was explained to me, something about the console will get updates before other consoles? does anyone know what this is or how I would go about becoming one or signing my xbox up for it?

It's called the "Xbox One Preview Program" which allows you to test updates that Microsoft pushes before it launches for everyone.
Just be warned though, if you do decide to want to partake in the Preview Program (which you have to be invited into, I'm sure there are people on here that'll invite you) some of the updates are extremely buggy and could possibly screw up.
I had to get a new HDD for mine because one of the updates gave me an error code and screwed my HDD up.

I would probably say the Xbox Forums. I believe there is a thread for it a few pages back, but I do not remember.
