So I'm selling my motorbike and I've advertised it in various places with a price of £995 which is quite above what I would be willing to accept but I would expecting people to make lowball offers.
A guy contacted me today via text asking to email him about the bike, he is willing to pay the original price I asked for if he can pay through paypal. Straight away I thought to myself this must be a scam as he was willing to pay way above what I wanted before even seeing the bike for himself, I thought maybe he'd send the money and later refund or dispute after collection. However, he has offered to pay through friends and family which I believe cannot be refunded, please inform me if I'm wrong, and so I can't see how this can be a scam but it all sounds too good to be true especially when he refuses to pay with cash.
Is it still possible to scam(dispute ect) via friends and family paypal?
Do you think this is a scam?

TBH I would ask for straight cash. F&F can still be disputed and if you don't have any sort of proof. Then, PayPal will be an ass an refund him. Disputes usually fail if seller provides shipping information.

Just ask for cash cuz PayPal always sides with the buyer

I'd ask for cash mate, it's a lot easier and more straight forward, that way he can't request a refund like he could with PayPal

Question is are you selling the bike online as in where you will have to ship it ? Or is it local?
If it is a local say i would say no because that is sketchy, why would he pay via paypal if he can pay cash locally
If you have to ship it to him i would still be careful and question him more maybe talk to him on the phone etc? See if his paypal matches the address he wants it shipped to aswell! and if you do decide he might be legit and decide to grow through with it just make sure you take pictures of everything, you shipping, you guys talking etc. & If you have a valid tracking number that is shipping to his paypal adress then for the most part you can win any dispute if he was to try and dispute

ok so this happend to me a few years ago.
i advertised a Honda CBF 125 in pretty much mint condition low mileage and well looked after, i advertised it as £1595 like you expecting people to low ball me.
I had an email from a guy who was willing to do the same, didnt want to see the bike and would pay in full through paypal. I emailed back and forth insisting that they come and view the bike before being sold as i didnt want them to buy something they later could say was not as advertised etc.
They said its fine they can tell from the pics its well looked after, and could they have the address so they could price up a courier that could collect and deliver the bike to them. i thought nothing of it and gave them the address.
They didnt contact me again after this, however a few days later somone did try and break into my Locked alarmed garage, luckily i was awake late and had just let the dog out (shes a doberman) and the dog managed to get a hold of the person drawing blood.
Now this could have all been a coincidence, but to me seems like a scam i did a bit of research and there have been people that sell a bike, pay through paypal, the buyer says its not what was advertised, and when they recieve the bike back the offical parts have been taken and crappy 3rd world bits put in its place.
Best advice i can give you is use something like autotrader, less than 1k is free anyway i believe and ONLY deal in cash, even then. make them sign a bought as seen and approved form. just to cover your own back.

Even if a user sends money through Friends & Family (Gift) the payment can still be disputed. You need to call PayPal in most instances to dispute it but yes it can be done. I've seen this happen a number of times, it has also been done to me before hand. You need to have a lot of evidence to cover you on this. Also as he's willing to pay PayPal I'd work on the assumption that it may be a stolen account. I think it seems rather odd. Ask him to lift the money and bring it in person - pretty sure he can go to the bank.

never do paypal transfers(this is the best way to make you pay the buyer/detonator back) if you watch like lets say livestreams youll see people charging back to mess the streamer up(this isnt only for gamers) so always do hand to hand never pp transfer hell bank transfer is safer then paypal so chances are hes trying to scam you
