Are you running your connection through wifi? If so you're probably using the older 2.4 ghz channel that limits to around 50 Mb/s. If your router is dual band - provided by the isp, and have a device that's capable of accepting the 5 ghz band you should be able to get the speed you're paying for.

It can also be where you're living as well. If you live in a countryside it can be bad for your internet - - playing on the speeds wise. That's a lot of money for a low internet speed.

Are you running your connection through a cable or wireless? That will make a difference, I get around 60 wireless but just over 100 wired. Could also depend on the distance you are from your router (if using wireless). Finally if you have loads of devices connected it will throttle your speeds, the more devices you have the more the bandwidth will need to be shared across the network.

Also take into account you won't get 100mbps during peak hours of the day, because everybody is on that isp.

It could have to do with the cables that are ran. My family had this same problem a few years ago and we had the cable company rerun a thicker wire. It worked great afterwarde

It usually says up to 100MB when you buy it so they can cover their themselves when you don't get what they said. I'm currently on 150MB and i get around 50-70 on average although i wouldn't complain about getting 50mb as my girlfriend is on the same internet package as me and gets an average of 10MB

I've done a speedtest on both connections and get around the same speeds.
