Hi all, I have relatively narrowed down my choices of Mustang that I wish to purchase this summer. I am looking for opinions and/or personal experience on them when it comes to overall price, maintenance, reliability, etc.

It should be noted that I will be purchasing the manual transmission version of whatever I buy.

Car will be used for minor commuting as I work as a part-time night shift EMT (3 shifts/week, 6 miles to get there) and occasional road trips with friends. I also plan to partake in occasional racing at my local drag strip.

1. 2003-2004 Mustang Mach 1 - ~$10,000
4v 4.6L V8 roughly 300whp
Has the 4v engine which tends to be more reliable, has forged internals, and accepts mods better than the 2v V8

2. 2005-2009 Mustang GT - ~$8,000
3v 3.6L V8 roughly 300whp
Newer, generally less miles than New Edges, don't love the bodystyle but it is growing on me

3. 99 Mustang V6, Coyote Swap - ~$10,000
5.0L V8 DHO6 400+whp
This will be my first car so buying a car with the intention of swapping the engine is a scary idea but the Coyote is powerful and reliable.

4. E90 BMW 335i - $10000+
320+whp
Twin turbo straight 6, parts aren't cheap, walnut blasting isn't cheap, I have a E90 328i which is the same engine as the 335 but naturally aspirated. Haven't had any issues yet and I love the bodystyle and interior.

5. SN95 Mustang Cobra - $8000
300whp
It's old, will have miles, and I don't really love the body

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I wouldn't trust a 4v 4.6L. The 2v 4.6L are the indestructible engines.

If you want the 5.0, buy it. By the time you swap the engine you will have more money into it than if you were to buy a good running car with one in it. You will also run into the reliability issue.

Honestly in this price range I'd look for a newer Mustang. My brother got a 2013 Mustang with like 40k miles for $11k. It is the V6, but it makes 305 HP. That's not to mention that a base model Mustang is MUCH cheaper for insurance than a GT.

Are you paying cash or taking out a loan? If you're paying cash just take out a loan against what you already have so you have 20k to work with.

If you're not. 04 Mach 1 or the 335i.

I'd for sure go with the 335i, you're right, German parts are super expensive but BMWs are well worth it. They are good cars, very reliable and have a lot of class yet performance.

Get the Beamer, I have one as a daily driver and could not ask for better handling in corners. Great car, I do believe their parts are priced like that because they are the best quality.
