How would I know if I needed new tires? Wouldn't I just be able to get a set compatible with the stock tires bolt/lug pattern and tire dimensions?

As far as tires, there is a date code (like 2607) on the sidewall. Look at that, in my example it shows the tire was made the 26th week of 2007. If the tire is more than 7 years old, it is expired". Also look at the tread depth, anything below 2/32nds is unsafe, and often times illegal.

Go out to your car and look at the tires. Look for a set of numbers like 215/50R18. This indicates you have an 18" wheel. On your door sticker it will also show tire size and sometimes wheel size. It it's for example an 18x6.5, any 18x6.5 wheel will work if it has the same lug pattern and offset.
