apparently a man killed his wife and went on facebook posing as her to make people believe she was still alive

God, I hate these sort of stories. Lying to cover up a HUGE mistake he's down. I'm sure that he's going to get caught/caught lying anyways some how? Being scared of what he has done - just shows he has f'd up.

I do not think the death penalty, is needed here either. But I disagree with your reasoning. It is not always about how many people you killed. It is about why you killed them and how you killed them. In this situation... The husband got into a argument with the wife, and strangled her. While that should not have happened, it was not really that bad. She might have suffered for a moment or two, but it could have been much worse. And I am also sure that he did not really mean to kill her, he was just caught up in the moment.
