Tensions over the Dakota Access oil pipeline flared again Sunday when North Dakota law enforcement used water cannons to disperse a group of about 400 protesters trying to move past a barricaded bridge toward construction sites for the project.

As temperatures in Cannon Ball, N.D., dropped into the 20s, police in riot gear sprayed activists with a hose mounted atop an armored vehicle and formed a line to prevent them from advancing up the road, according to the Bismarck Tribune. Protesters also reported being pelted with rubber bullets, tear gas and concussion grenades during the standoff, which lasted until late Sunday night.

A grainy Facebook Live video from the scene shows throngs of people gathered around the Backwater Bridge on Highway 1806, with flood lights shining down on the grass and road below and a haze of smoke and water vapor rising near police vehicles.

I don't get when people join in, yeah I get you disagree with something so you riot about that but at the end of the day. You're going to get caught. Simple!

^^^^ You guys do understand that they aren't protesting about Donald Trump, right? They aren't in a city.

The protesters are doing so peacefully. They aren't starting fires. The police projectiles are starting the fires.
Consider that the only evidence that the protesters started any fires is a statement by the Morton County police department and that a spokesperson for the sheriff also said that they weren't using water cannons.

I wonder if they might be lying.

And let's say that the protesters did start fires. Can we really blame them considering they are being blasted by water cannons in freezing cold weather?

This isn't just the police out there water cannoning people in freezing weather. It's paid security for the oil companies. What ethical restraints are these people supposed to have when doing anything they can to stop the protesters gets them paid either way?

If you're still against the protesters consider that one man had the flesh on his fingers blasted off down to the bone because the security are specifically aiming for people's hands. They are trying to give people hypothermia and they are succeeding.
They fired concussion grenades into the crowd, which aren't supposed to be fired at people, and one hit 21 year old Sophia Wilansky in her arm. This caused most of the flesh between her elbow and wrist to be ripped off and it might require amputation.

I don't understand how someone gets to the point of rioting, needless damage that is not gonna solve anything.
