Should prisoners thank prison guards for keeping them in jail? Should students thank their teachers every day for teaching them? The reason I bring that up is because kids think school is prison.

Anyway, I get being polite and showing gratitude, but if you say it every day for someone doing their job it really means nothing. Just my thoughts though, if it makes you feel good, go for it!

RedWood wrote I catch the bus back from school nearly everyday and im one of the last stops so i see everyone getting on and off, the bus i catch is a public bus so strangers get on aswell here's the bit that pisses me off, I see about 20 people on my bus from my school just walk off the bus and not even say "Thank you" yes this is a small thing but the bus driver is nothing but nice and i really feel sorry for him he atlest deserves a thanks but no the teenagers of this era are just rude and i just dont get it its just sad becuase its not even hard to tecach a kid how to say "please" and "thank you"..

This should not even be a post, it should just be a comment added on to post "This generation.". But since you made a topic about it.... This has nothing to do with this generation of kids. Not every kid does this. I drive to school now, but when I used to ride the bus, I would always tell the bus driver to have a nice day and say thank you. Some people just think that they are better than others. A lot of the kids that don't say thank you to the bus drivers, are typically the "cool" kids. They probably don't like the bus driver because at one point or another, they probably got in trouble by that bus driver.

Hardwick wrote People saying it's not that much of a big deal?

But wouldn't you be pissed off when you hold a door for somebody or when you help somebody, you always expect that slight bit of mannerism.

A please and thankyou can go along way when just saying it to a bus driver. Although you pay your fare and get off, fair enough you don't have to say anything. Still the same as saying thankyou to your mum, dad, brother, sister or friend if they gave you a ride you'd thank them. It's just basic manners.

I catch the bus sometimes and I can tell you that It's not just respect for the drivers but for the companies itself. Rubbish, constant swearing, fighting always goes on on buses and its actually disgusting. Not nice for little ones to get on and see this everyday especially when getting the bus home from school.

I agree with you matey.

If you were late to the bus and they were driving off, but the bus driver seen you coming and stopped then let you in, that is a situation that you should say thanks. But as someone said earlier, there not driving people around because it is what they like to do, they are driving people around to get paid. Personally I say thank you for almost anything, if i go to mcdonalds and order food, i tell the person thank you. It is just who I am. But I understand why some people don't say thank you.

As they say respect and being respectful goes a long way and it makes someones day. E.G the bus driver by saying "thank you". It's not really being rude, I think it's more of a arrogant more than anything.

I always thanked my bus driver through high school. Not sure why, guess I was just taught a little more respect than others.

I completely disagree.

If anything i see the old generation not saying thanks or even acknowledging the driver. I know I always saying thanks or cheers. I used to catch a public bus to and from school and it was always the 60+ granny or the old businessman on his way to/from work that are ignorant or loud on the bus.
