I'm guessing it has something to do with more processing and "purifying", but why is it that healthy food is so expensive compared to say a burger at Burger King or stuff from Taco Bell? There's a higher demand for unhealthy food cuz there's a lot less people who eat healthy so wouldn't that drive unhealthy foods cost up?

No, it wouldn't drive the costs up. The cheaper it is, the more people will buy it, the more money the producer makes.
Healthy foods are more expensive because they take more work to make and are obviously higher quality foods to eat.

Supply and demand.

Processed foods are designed to be produced easily, and be easy to maintain until they get to a customer. "Healthy" foods require much more work to grow nicely. Pair that with the fact that they are harder to keep from going bad since they aren't loaded up with things to prevent them from breaking down. Plus, ironically enough, organic food is somewhat of a luxury item. Therefore you get the "luxury tax."

Not too sure, but if healthier food were cheaper America would be a lot more slim.

That's very true, a salad cost alot more than a cheese burger, also when people are on a budget they'll lean towards the cheaper edible and it looks more appealing to them.

I hope this changes soon.

I hope the sugar tax proposed in the UK kicks in soon to make sugary/ high fat foods more expensive which might hopefully drive down the healthier foods.

Also "Healthy foods" such as fruit and veg is a lot harder to get rather than 1 day cooking process for some biscuits.

I eat all natural and I can eat for 10-15 bucks a day and that includes breakfast. I know people that eat fast food and will pay 7-8 bucks just for one burger and some nasty fries

Healthier food is generally more expensive becuase the companies that sell it know that they can charge more and people will pay it. Alot of the time though its only a difference of less than a dollar

I do most of my shopping for food at whole foods and earth fare and the quality is so much better . Also I'm feeding my body the nutritious and quality food that it needs to go through the day

It won't change soon. Atleast not here in the U.S.

Corporations like Monsanto, kraft, nestle and coca cola line the pockets of many senators and Representatives.

Whether or not healthy food is more expensive or not, people are still going to buy and eat what they think tastes better. Even if that is a greasy burger over a salad.

Everyone says they would eat healthier if the food was cheaper. They wouldn't.

In short, healthier food cost more because it cost more to produce. Its easy to throw some cheap ingredients in something and call it doritos, and its cheap to.
