I run a restaurant and the building itself doesn't really have great signal when inside or you cant really use the data on your phone, so I have WiFi as so the tills can work wireless etc...

Another benefit is when a delivery driver needs to look up an address if they don't know where it is.

but..... If one person gets the WiFi password then it spreads like a fire and all the staff end up on their phones when I am not looking (I see them on the cameras not working and on phones). Then the loop starts all over again where I give one person the password that NEEDS it and the rest get it eventually.

I need a solution as to only to allow the use of google maps or limited apps within the work place and to block any other sort of browsing.

I can accept ideas that range from blocking it via the internet settings to actually buying one device that can only be used for the drivers.

Thanks, and sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

You can set what time you want them to connect and what time to disconnect.

You can also block sites but not too sure how to do that.

You can edit the router settings to white list certain MAC addresses so they can connect to the network.

Depending on the router, I know that you can block sites, but not apps.
Least it'd block them on Safari, Google Chrome, etc.

I found this link for blocking YouTube, I assume if you do the same for other sites, it'd block the components of the app they're wanting to use?

Linked [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Also, what you could do is what XeGlitch mentioned, if you're buying a tablet, lock the mac address of the tablet, and nothing else. If you also do the tutorial to block YouTube, I imagine it'd not be that hard, lol.

Couldnt the employees just run through a proxy or tor node to get around your attempts at blocking them?

Yes they could sir, but the that is something I am willing to test.
Set up this way of blocking it and if they can figure out how to use proxy's then Ill just shut the WiFi down haha

you should be able to white-list what can be accessed through the router settings, your idea of just having one tablet isnt bad even if its abused its just one tablet how much can it really be abused
