Leading up to the story (skip to the "situation" if you don't care about this part

So, I'm a college student and I have school Monday through Friday and therefore I only work late Friday nights and Sunday's (which I hate) and I barely make any money, but that doesn't bother me. The point is.. last weekend I called off to go visit my friends at a different university than I go to & I called off work which wasn't a problem. But the thing is I only work those two days and so I haven't been into work to check my schedule for this week. I just assumed it was the same as usual.

My situation

So, since I assumed it was the normal days I worked, I planned my week accordingly. So, last night at like 7, I was playing league of legends after I finished my homework and got done working out. I was done for the day, I was playing ranked & all of a sudden I was getting a call from my boss. I didn't answer bc I was playing league and couldn't leave bc it was ranked. & I thought he was just calling me asking if I could work bc I didn't think I worked. But then he called again.. and again.. and again, about 6 times and even left a voicemail. I was in placement matches for league and so there was no chance I was going in. I haven't texted him or called him back bc I realized that I was supposed to work yesterday. I'm not worried about getting fired or quitting because I really don't even want this job but I'm not the one to quit. I work this Friday and he'll be there, so my question is: What should I say to him? I'm obviously not going to tell him I was playing league and didn't answer on purpose. I was thinking to use school as an excuse. But I'm not too sure so I'm asking you guys.

You only need to say two words when it comes to talking to employers. Those two words are "personal issues".

really don't even want this job

Can I ask, why are you in a job you don't like, I'd get a job what you like doing not what you doing doing.

Just say "I was away for a long time and I didn't take my phone with me sorry" Something like that so the boss can understand what you're saying and hopefully he agrees with you.

Go with the school situation.
Say you had a project due and you were at the library doing it.
Most managers or bosses understand when you're in school.

Tell him your phone was dead or you left it in a friends car.

Gavin- wrote Tell him your phone was dead or you left it in a friends car.
The boss will know his phone was on, since the call went through, so saying his phone was dead isnt a very good excuse.

Ik its rahter shady but if it stops you getting fired, maybe drop the bombshell that one of your family members had to go to hospital since they fell unwell and it turned out to be nothing.

I would just say that you had unforeseen circumstances you would prefer not to discuss.
