This build is for a real life close friend. He is going to place an order by the end of this weekend, after years of being on console he is finally going to build a PC. I told him that I would help him get the best build for his budget.

What is your budget and currency? $1,000 US
Do you need a monitor? Yes
Do you need a keyboard? Yes
Do you need a mouse? Yes
Do you need an operating system? No
What will you use the PC for? Everything

The suggestion on that page is terrible, ignore it.

What monitor will he be using?
Has he any interest in overclocking, or would he rather avoid it?
Any aesthetic preferences?

Yeah that's what I told him, I knew the build wasn't any good.

I just found out he will be needing a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. I doubt he will be overclocking, considering this is his first build and he does not know a lot. If you do get an unlocked CPU I am sure he would put the OC capabilities to use. I wouldn't worry about it though.

I asked him about the color scheme and he said "white and gold" So try to make it white and yellow, if not yellow then purple. Thanks for the help!

Going to bump this in order to get a good build. He was wanting to order the parts this weekend, but I don't think that will happen. Hopefully I can get the build list soon and give it to him. Thanks.

Gold and Purple are like the two hardest colours to come across for PC components. The motherboard has some orange accents, which I guess is close to Gold. I went with a white case, and the case has LEDs built in, so I'm sure he could set those to yellow. Included an ultrawide monitor, with a 75Hz refresh rate. No kb/mouse included, just pick up a cheap combo, you can get CM Devastator bundles for like $20 or so usually. I included an unlocked CPU and Z170 chipset motherboard so he can overclock if he wants, the only reason I did so is because the 6600k is only $20 more than the i5-6500 right now, so it's very well priced. If you'd rather save money or completely avoid overclocking, just save $20-$50 by getting an i5-6500 instead of the 6600k and maybe a cheaper motherboard too.
