I want to buy a monitor for gaming on both my PS4 and my new PC when it arrives.

I was looking at an ultra wide but it wouldn't be too good for ps4 gaming.

What are you guys using? And would any of you have any recommendations for what monitor I should get? My PC will be running a i56500 and a gtx 1060.

*edit* my budget for this monitor would be around 200 GBP

Console gaming is not support by either Ultra Wide or increased refresh rate monitors like 144hz/120hz, although if you want the high refresh rate for PC gaming, I'd get it anyways if you plan on using it for both your console and PC.

The current monitor I am using is a BenQ XL2411Z 144hz for about $280 when I got it and it is well worth the price.

Response time is irrelevant mostly. It takes 16.7ms for any 60Hz panel to refresh the image on screen. "Response time" is a marketing ploy for companies like BenQ to shift more of their shitty panels to consumers that don't know what to look for.

Grab one of these;

Both are nice, IPS 1080p panels.

Or, a nice alternative;

Entry level ultrawide, IPS panel. I think this might even be 75Hz refresh rate, which is nice because it will actually be faster, unlike those 60Hz BenQ panels people think are so quick lol.

What's your opinion on 144hz monitors?

And yea I seen that ultrawide I plan on buying one at a later date but for now I'm just looking for a good monitor for both PC and PS4

Depends. 1080p 144Hz panels are all TN, and TN panels pretty much suck. I despise TN panels, and I would never get a 144Hz 1080p panel. I used one again, pretty recently and it was horrible. The viewing angles and colours on TN panels are just horrific IMO. Though, 144Hz is objectively better than 60Hz. There is no denying that. I wouldn't turn down a nice 144Hz 1440p IPS display, but I wouldn't touch a 1080p 144Hz display. Also, you can overclock your monitor anyway(potentially, of course it depends on luck, etc). The difference between 60Hz and around 80Hz is more noticeable than the difference from 100Hz to 144Hz.

I'd recommend the ultrawide over 144Hz, for sure. You can use your PS4 and PC on the ultrawide.

Yea I would like to avoid TN from what I have read. I will be picking up the LG UM58 as you had suggested but I think it's only 60hz

There's a 25UM58, and a 25UM58-P. I have no idea what the differences between them are, other than I/O. The "P" version has 2x HDMI, where the non "P" has an HDMI, a DVI and a VGA. However, PCPP claims that they are both 75Hz panels. I'm not sure how accurate that is. There's also a 25UM57-P there, which is more expensive. I'm almost certain that's just an older, 60Hz variant of the 25UM58-P.

So, I'd say just go with the 25UM58-P. I'm even considering an upgrade to one of those myself, if I manage to get money for it lol. If it is 75Hz, I'd just consider that a bonus. If not, you'll probably be able to overclock it past 60Hz, even just a little. Then again, I did have a monitor that became unstable if I tried to push it to 61Hz, and an identical monitor that hit 76Hz, so it's all down to luck really.
