Well the time has come where I'm selling my truck. I've thought long and hard and was dead set on a Ram 2500, but I just don't think a brand new truck is what I need right now. That said I'm looking at buying a POS beater truck (similar to my old F-350 hopefully), and a new fuel efficient car. I'm looking at the Chevrolet Cruze, the Dodge Dart, and the Ford Focus. Does anyone have any experience with any / all of these cars? Which one would you recommend and why? Please don't say "oh I recomend X car because it's X brand".

Right now I'm leaning towards the Dodge Dart as I'm not the biggest fan of a CVT trans (the trans the Focus has), but I have nothing on the Cruze besides the fact I like the look of the Dart better. Where that gets screwed up is the Cruze gets better MPG lol. With that being said, I'm not looking for a race car, I'm getting a base model car, probably with manual windows and such just for good MPG.

Chevrolet Cruze: MSRP of $19,995 with MPG between 30 city and 42 highway (LS trim at dealer for $15k)
Dodge Dart: MSRP of $19,880 with MPG between 25 city and 36 highway (SE trim at dealer for $15k)
Ford Focus: MSRP of $20,485 with MPG between 27 city and 40 highway (SE trim at dealer for $14k)

Figuring normally 1 year of use is 10k miles, at current gas prices of $2.35 each MPG equates to $31.08 annually.

Right now my issue is the Focus is the cheapest for base purchase price, but I like the look of the Dart better, however, it's more expensive and will cost $62.16 more per year in gas. The Cruze on the other hand, looks a little better than the Ford in my opinion, will save me $62.16 annually in gas, but will cost 1k more. Over 20 years (when the cars have 200k miles on them), the Focus will have costed me $14k for the purchase price, and $17,407.40 in gas. The Dart will cost 1k more in purchase price, and $1,243.20 more in gas than the Ford. The Cruze is 1k more than the focus, however will save me $1,243.20 in gas, therefore being $243.20 cheaper than the Focus if I put 200k miles on the vehicle.

Basically the Cruze is the cheapest, the Ford over 200k miles will cost $243.20 more than the Cruze, and the Dart will cost $3,133.34 more than the Cruze. Granted this is based off the city MPG, not combined, and I'm not factoring insurance differences or repairs, but I can't figure what a repair will cost today VS 15 years from now.

Used the focus as my company car, drove around the tri state. it is HORRIBLE for comfort. I recommend you get the dodge dart. I have rented one while my car was in the shop. You will like it, better than the focus and I'm not too keen on the cruze so keep that in mind.

Brother has a doge dart, not the base trim, but it's a comfortable car. Not to roomy surprisingly I thought. But that's just me.

Thanks for the input guys. Comfort isn't at the top of the list for me, I drive a lifted truck with probably the stiffest suspension on the planet lol so anything is more comfortable than my truck.

nah man, trust me. the seats in the focus will hurt your back. If you're going to be daily driving it you should look into that.

my cousin has a Dart and I've driven it once or twice but overall I liked it. Personally I also think the Dart looks the best of the 3, it felt pretty solid on the road. Comfy car in my opinion. I never drove it long enough to see how the mpg was though. I also really liked the gauges lol

Thanks guy, push me to the most expensive one lol. I'll probably run out and test drive all of them as soon as I sell my truck unless there is a decent used one at a good price.

My sister picked up a chevy cruze a few months ago. Its a 2014, and its been nothing but a pain in the ass. A week ago the water pump went out, and it turns out theres a recall for it. The car is super slow and hard to get uphills (no joke, not saying it has to be a fast car but this thing is ungodly slow) and it has a funky tranny. It shifts hard as shit and feels like a slip effect. Hers is auto btw. I say go for the dart.

On a side note, have you looked at a ford fusion or Taurus? The new ones are great

Thanks for the input on the Cruze. I have thought about the Fusion Taurus, and Lincoln MKZ but I'm going to budget myself a little because this is just a car for the MPG. I'd love to jump into a Taurus, but they are really expensive and on the lower end of the MPG. The MKZ is also down there in MPG, but I love the interiors of them. I do like the look of the Fusion, but it's still 5 MPG off of the Focus. It's 2 off from the Dart, so I might look into a couple used ones. I've set my budget at 15k and I don't really want to go above that lol.

Props to you for limiting yourself, I struggle with that haha. Told myself I wouldnt spend more than 3k on mods for my mustang and here I am at $5800. Its in the shop getting some comp stage 2 cams in it and some new stronger rods. Luckily I have a buddy doing it so its cheaper than a shop, but I really need to save for college haha.
