Take a look at used truck lots down here in Florida, there is a host of trucks. 4x4 , 4x2 whatever you need. Check in the Orlando and Ocala areas.

Are you looking to go semi-new? Also what size? They have quarter ton trucks like the Canyon and Colorado, they have half tons like the F-150 / 1500, 3/4 tons like the F-250 / 2500, etc.

If you're looking into a 1/4 ton, I can't help you much. As far as a 1/2 ton, if you go for the F-150, do NOT buy a 2015+ F-150. The aluminum beds are tearing horribly. People seem to not care for the Ecoboost engines in the '11-14's, but I think that's because they want like 30 MPG lol. I do know the Ecoboost platform does have a few known issues, nothing I'd be scared about though. If you go to a '04-08 body style, do not get the 5.4L. These engines had a horrible design to get oil to the cam phasers and blew motors left and right. The 4.6L is alright, just not as powerful. I would stay away from an '04-05 because these are known for a ton of issues. The '97-03's are probably the ugliest but the most dependable in my opinion. The 5.4's in these trucks have tons of power and the 4.6's you can just beat on like no tomorrow. That and they're super easy to work on.

If you go 3/4 ton / 1 ton, NOTHING (in my opinion) will beat the Ford Superduty with the 7.3L Powerstroke engine. These engines are bulletproof pretty much. Granted they don't have a lot of power, but they are extremely reliable. The only issue with these trucks is the 4R100 auto trans was known to be a weak link. Get a manual and you have arguably the most desireable truck. From '99-07 I'd stay away from the 6.8L V-10's not only are they gas hogs, but they are known for blowing spark plugs which is a big expense. The 6.0L is an alright engine if you get it bulletproofed which costs a lot of money. I'd only look for a '05-07 as again they had a lot of issues with early models. For 08-10, stay away from diesel, these engines are 150k mile motors, horrible design on Ford's part. The V-10's are good though. From '11-16 the 6.7L is supposed to be the best engine, but it's too new for me to run out and but one as it takes a while to find common flaws. Same thing with the 6.2L gas, it's supposed to be a good motor but again it's too soon to tell. If you want a new truck, I'd look at the Ram 2500. I can get one brand new for 33k. I know the 5.7L Hemi is a tried and true motor, but the rest is a crap shoot. I'm buying a new truck here pretty soon and I'm looking at Ram.

I love my '97 F-150, it's super easy to work on and has a reliable motor in it, but I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a 7.3L. Like I said, I'm buying a new truck soon and my pick is Ram. I'm a Ford guy through and through but come 2017, you couldn't give me a Ford pickup. Ford is going to screw up so hard.

I looked online @ at 2014 f150 with the 5.0 engine in it, there were a lot of good things said about it. What do you have to say about that? And with the rams which year would you recommend?

Looking mostly in the 1/2 market btw, but will consider 3/4 ton if it's a diesel

I looked online @ at 2014 f150 with the 5.0 engine in it, there were a lot of good things said about it. What do you have to say about that? And with the rams which year would you recommend?

My only issue with the 5.0 is that it gets pretty bad mileage and the 3.5L Ecoboost makes better numbers in that it makes 5 more hp and 40 more torque. It can also tow and haul more than the 5.0 and is cheaper on maintenance (smaller engine means less oil, not much of a savings but it's there). I certainly wouldn't be turned off by the idea of the 5.0, it's a tried and true motor that's been around for a long time. Not the same exact motor that's in the truck, but it's pretty much the same platform just with more mods.

With Ram, I haven't done much research in the half ton market just because I'm looking for a 3/4 ton. Personally, I'd get one with the shifter on the steering column. I wish I could give you a year, but I know Fiat bought them out and changed some stuff like making the shifter a dial shifter. This is all new technology so besides the fact it's the least manly way to shift, I like it to be out on the market for a while for others to try lol.

If you go 3/4 ton, I would not get a diesel newer than 2008. In 2010 the EPA made strict regulations for emissions on diesel engines and in 2008 manufacturers started working on that and engines are blowing left and right and get just horrible MPG. It used to be that diesel would get at least 5 mpg better than gas, but now it's 5 mpg worse. The new diesel engines are full of emissions junk that clog the engine and blow gaskets and seals as Ford found with the 6.4L. Also, if you go with a new Ram diesel truck, they come with HORRIBLE gears. The come with I think it's 3.02 or 3.08 or something high like that. The standard for a 1/2 ton is around a 3.55, and the standard for 3/4 ton and 1 ton is 3.73, but the gears you want for towing and hauling are 4.10 and 4.56. I would not be afraid of a gasser, the 5.7L Hemi in the Ram 3/4 ton does pretty good on gas and has a lot of power. You can go bigger, I think it's a 6.4L Hemi, but that's a guzzler. If you are set on diesel in the 3/4 ton market, get the 99-03.5 7.3L Powerstroke, you won't be disappointed. If you don't want to go Ford, look into the 5.9L Cummins. I personally like my diesel engines to be a V8, and the Cummins is a straight 6 which I don't like, but there's no real reason behind it besides me just wanting a V8 lol.

Check out this video on how crappy the aluminum idea is.

Obviously not this exact truck, but what what do you think about this one?
