This is not a rant or for self pity, I am just curious and would like to know more about glaucoma. Currently I am 16 years old, 17 in 2 days, and I went to the eye doctor, that my mom works at, the other day to find out I am at high risk for glaucoma. They took pictures of my eyes after they dilated them, turns out I am at high risk and it has showed up in the family before. It is not guaranteed but I do have to go back and do some more tests.

My main concern, is of course, going blind. I saw that glaucoma isn't that rare but it mainly occurs with people of older age. As well as 10% of people with glaucoma and have proper treatment do go blind. I was wondering, since I am younger and have it, what are my chances of going blind with proper treatment. As losing eyesight would absolutely suck dick, I don't know if I would be able to live without it. It would comfort me knowing now, rather then waiting to go back and then find out. I don't really know if this depends on the severity, I am sure it does, but if I could get any answers that would be great. The reason I don't ask my mom is because she really just helps there, she isn't an actual "eye doctor."

If you guys don't know, no worries. Whenever I go back in the next couple of weeks I am sure I will find out. Anyways, thanks for your time and I hope you all have a great day.

Macular Degeneration is in my family. ( Feel free to look it up. ) As well as a heep of other medical conditions.

Although I've never been told I'm at risk for Macular Degeneration, yeah it's scary. But it's life. You're at high risk, that doesn't mean it'll happen. You should be happy that you were told you just at risk, and not that you had it.

Keep your head up, everyone has family health issues that chase them. That's why tests are done, so that they can catch it to either delay, or prevent it. ( I'm not just specifically speak about eye conditions here. )

Stay calm, keep your head up, and stay the hell off of google. Especially if you're doing research about it, google's resuslts can scare the hell out of you.

You'll be okay man.

It seems that the earlier you diagnose Glaucoma, the less chance of losing your sight.

I highly doubt that anyone here is going to know much about it, I'm doing training to be a paramedic at the moment and even I know almost nothing about it. Google it and read up on it and you should be able to understand more.

Your best bet is to ask your eye doctor for more information on it.

I highly doubt you will go blind and as said above really do stay off google when it comes to your personal medical issues, the amount of times ive googled my symptoms and its come up with some serious or uncurable conditions has given me nightmares and then it turns out to be easily treatable and nothing of the calibre google suggested.
