Hey guys recently I have noticed that I cant run some games on high/max without it lagging so I think its time to upgrade. My system is...

i7 3770 @3.4GHz
R9 390 8GB MSI
16 GB Corsair Vengenace Pro 2400 MHz
260 GB Samsung 250 evo
1TB WD Black HDD

So im thinking it would be the processor struggling to play the game? I'm gonna wait until i get paid to get a new one so I want a really good processor which would mean i need a new mobo aswell so probs around 300 GBP all in? Any suggestions ?

Thanks guys :*

Doubt it would be the processor, still a fairly strong CPU for gaming. I had one until I swapped it for a 6 core i7. You don't need to upgrade either the CPU or GPU.

What games is this happening in?
Have you got the latest driver for your GPU installed?

Also just to add to that, with £300 pounds you wont be getting a better CPU. Brand new the best you'll get is a Skylake i5 and you would need a new motherboard and DDR4 RAM but then that's pretty stupid to go from a 4 core 8 threads CPU to a 4 core 4 threads CPU. Skylake might have better performance but games love hyperthreading and i5's are starting to become a bottleneck in newer games.

Like Dan said, your specs are still pretty good. You probably wouldn't notice a huge difference if you upgraded anything.

The last year or two have seen a lot of terribly optimized games for PC. Not being able to run a game on max settings doesn't necessarily mean that you need to upgrade.

With that said, the only thing I would even bother considering for an upgrade is the CPU. It's not terrible by any means, but it's getting up there in years, and you would probably get a bit more out of a newer one.

Black Ops 3 doesnt run on max and rust runs like shit but its just cause they're shitly optimized which I just thought i could overcome with a better PC, think i was just in the mood for an upgrade haha, guess ill just wait to get a new cpu
Oh okay didn't really think I wouldnt get much better for £300 haha, thanks for the help

Rust is unoptimized, it isn't because your hardware is lacking. I can run Black Ops 3 at 75fps fine with an Ivy Bridge i5 and a 970 so you should be able to max that out fine. If you don't have your games on an SSD that could help out a bit also.
