Minecraft lag on good pc?

I have a good pc that runs games but when i try to play MC it lags kind of generally but there is a bad block lag it takes like 4 seconds for the mined block to come up. any ideas?

Are you playing on someones server? if yes it's the server problem then, not your PC.

May be a bit late to your post but I had this problem as well, instead of running it through Single Player I just downloaded a server instance and played off the server on my own computer, after that I had no issues. (Not a fix to single player but it makes playing minecraft playable)
