can i use a usb wifi adapter or do i need the Xbox 360 adapter

Fairly sure you need the official 360 adapter.

If you have the Xbox 360 slim it's got built in wifi but if you've got an older version of the 360 like a phat console then yes you need a wifi adapter which are cheap on eBay
Edit: I didn't read this fairly correctly but I believe that you need the Xbox 360 wifi adapter idk if a PC wifi adapter would be compatible but you could try and see if it works

i jusy ordered something off amazon that looks like a mini router that hooks into the system and wall and it says itll work but ill see but thanks for the help guys.

It may have been smarter to just buy the official Xbox one , good luck with this one!

You will need to purchase a xbox 360 wifi adaptor for a phat console
