So im planning on bridging two routers using DD-WRT. What i need to know is does the modem play a factor in that at all(do i need to look into an aftermarket one)? what kind of router other than Buffalo should i look into for the process? and does anyone have any other suggestions than bridging routers for better wifi in my household?

I am no expert on this but it may help giving your router model for us.

You shouldn't need to bridge them, simply connect the one thats not connected to your cable/ADSL line to the one that is then turn off all of the routing features and use your DD WRT one as the router and the other as a dumb wifi switch.
