Im trying to separate each letter into a new layer could someone help it would be greatly appreciated

You could just use the Text Tool on separate layers.

If it is an image you already have -
Get the Rectangular Marquee tool [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (Shortcut Key = M)
Select the letter
Right Click
Select Layer Via Copy
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Done


If you have already typed it out and dont fancy redoing it layer by layer (you crazy)
Right click your text layer
Select Rasterize Type
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Then follow steps above


If you have a cursive typeface -
Use the Lasso/Polygonal Lasso Tool
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Take your time to select the letter, making sure it is smoothly done.

Then again, Layer Via Cut
