person - "oh you have a vac ban on your account, wow idk youre kinda suspicious we might have to ban you from this server" The vac ban on my account is from 577 days ago in a game that I didnt actually cheat it, I just had the menu open IN A PRIVATE MATCH.. But they dont know that, they see VAC BAN = 1 and ban me, not questions asked, very cool thank you.

Things like this piss me off quite royally. It goes for alot of things, oh yeah remember that one time 6 years ago in speech class when you forgot to bring your pencil, yeah wow man dude bro idk if I can trust you to bring me back my ________ whatever. Like really dude?

Im sure someone can make better scenarios for this but holding onto the petty shit that is way in the past is so childish to me. Let it **** go, just because I "cheated" in a game made in 2009 doesnt mean I cheat in every game.

I believe in 2nd chances and I think everyone should, if you judge people based on a few silly mistakes theyve done I think it tells people more about yourself than the person youre judging. How can you judge someone for being a **** human? No one is perfect so stop acting like you are some kind of messiah, because youre not. You dont know the backstory, you dont know the reasoning behind any of the events you just know "human did bad thing, that human bad".Obviously there are some things you can let go but be rational, I mean common sense please use it.

For the server ban, I completely agree...something like that should be lifted off your account after a period of time.

However, if I read your second point correctly, I have to slightly disagree. If I lend out money, and the person wasn't so good at paying me back (some people still haven't paid back), I simply stop lending money to that person. If you borrow $5 from me and don't pay it back, or you don't pay back until a month later, then I will stop lending you money. If you ask me a year later, or 5 years later, my answer will still be no.

Just my opinion. (I lend money to close friends without expecting anything in return. I'm only referring to people i'm not close with)

The money thing is tricky yeah. People who beg for money seem to ALWAYS need it so I can understand the issue. Ive done the same thing but usually USUALLY when it comes to other things I use my best judgement and give the person a 2nd chance.

Sometimes shit happens.

Just to be the devils advocate, look at it as a credit deal. You have a record of cheating on a game, be it last Monday, or 2 years ago, you did it. What's to stop you from doing it again? For all I know, you still cheat and just haven't gotten caught.

Onto bigger, real life issues, let's say you defaulted on a 50k loan 3 years ago, and haven't had any other credit since then. I am going to be VERY careful to lend you any amount of money, and if you do it will be at an extremely high interest rate. You are now a liability and I doubt I'll get my money back.

That's like saying that a employer should not judge a person because of there criminal record, i mean even if they were a murderer or rapist, i guess that they should give the guy a second chance? Nope, from a employer's point of view hiring a rapist could make your coworkers uncomfortable or even the customers. You believe that everyone deserves a second chance, i believe that once someone has done something, that they have the ability to do it again. For example if somebody asked me for a pencil(and they stole one in the past), i would say no because they have done it in the past and they might do it again. Or a bank for example, if they give you a loan and you never pay them back again, do you expect them to give you a second chance?

Use common sense and fair judgment OBVIOUSLY if someone is convicted criminal its different than modding an old ass game and getting a VAC ban.

I still believe in 2nd chances but I never said that everyone deserved it. You have to use COMMON SENSE and fair judgement on the individual.

There shouldn't be a double standard. Think of it this way, if your in a race.... It doesn't matter if you win by a inch or a mile, you still win.

You are only applying your logic to situations which are of equal stature.
Like not loaning someone a pencil if they stole one in the past.

Jiro seems to be saying that people nitpick small, past misdeeds and penalize people in the face of a larger and more important situations because of them.

For example: Your friend once stole a pencil from you so you won't lend them another one.
If that same friend knocked on your door and said they had been kicked out of their house, had nowhere else to go, and it was raining and cold, would you turn them away because they might steal something based on the fact that they stole your pencil?

The people that Jiro is talking about would turn them away based on the reasoning that a past misdeed, no matter how small, should inspire distrust with no regard for changing circumstances or the situation at the time.
