So I have a decent pc I'd say
GTX 970, i7 6700k, recently upgraded to 16gb of ram.
I play Fallout 4, completely maxed settings, with some 2k textures installed, and not once have I ever used more than 6gb of ram. I originally only had 8gb and upgraded to 16 today but the thought popped into my head that the recommended settings for Fallout 4 was 8gb. However even during big firefights the ram usage never exceeded 5.6gb and that's including the system reserves.
