I would like to begin this thread with graphic designers are not mind readers.
I myself, am familiar with Photoshop and tend to browse the graphics forums.
While browsing the Graphics Request I like to help out those who request simple things I can do.
When people make a request topic for, lets say a signature this is their format;

Text: Example
Font: (Random font linked)
Colour: Light Blue
Make it look cool thanks!

After then making something for this person then have them say "well I don't like it."
You asked me to make what I think looks cool, but won't give detail to what you want.
Then said user decides to bash the work is a complete joke.
Please for the sake of any designers sanity please describe what YOU want!

TL;DR: If you are going to request work, describe what you want.

I think as the designer you then need to make it known that you refuse to do work unless it is clear that you know what they specifically want.

Maybe one way to reduce confusion is to give them options to choose from. & if they would want something besides your options then let them know they have to be specific about every little detail.

I actually get very irritated when they'll request something and you know it's going to look super sh*t. I mean hey, as long as they're happy, but if I add that to a completed list, people will look the other way.

It's annoying AF when you're trying to do something and they tell you nothing, but I think it's also annoying when they tell you too much and you either refuse knowing it's going to be bad, and there's no way to salvage it or you do it and people will think you're crap at designing.

I just want them to tell me a 'brief' idea of what they want and let me go to work on it. Customers always right, but hell, if I'm doing it for free, my input is more important.

When I had a shop that I kept up with here on site, that is what I did. I gave them a specific form to fill out (it was kinda detailed more so than usual forms) and if they didn't fill it out properly, I didn't do the work. Simple as that.

The idea caught on pretty quickly.

It's more than difficult to explain what it is you want 'exactly' that's why a simple form will rarely get what you wanted.

I am a graphics designer myself and some times people don't describe nearly enough for us (graphic designers) to make a good quality product.

I get aggravated when I work on what was requested also and they say they like it and do not use it or I take the time to work on it and they do not appreciate it..

That really annoys me.
