I Don't see a problem with showing off what you got on sites as you said you can do what you want on these sites. If someone doesn't like me showing it there is an option to hide content so that it doesn't show on their news feed/timeline/ story.

Unfortunately this is the world that we live in now and people will always show off whether people like or not and there's no way to stop it from happening. Like you said if they are being ****'s about it then yes it's annoying but there is a difference between showing off and bragging and from what I can see you are talking about the latter.

I never said people couldn't post a picture of what they got, simply that it pissed me off and you got all pissy about me having an opinion lmfao.

I'm simply used to seeing people I don't know that well, or don't like much posting annoying status' and tweets, and what not, and I don't like it. Don't get angry because I have an opinion.

Nocebo wrote Someone's feeling defensive.

No, I'm not lmfao. I stated an opinion and got attacked. I never once said someone can't do what they want, so don't try to twist my words and make it look like that, it's pretty pathetic.

Nocebo wrote And when GTT said, 'Tbh, they probably did show their friends there new shit.' he was obviously referring to where you said, 'Do you think before social networking that kids would run out in the streets and start showing everyone their new shit? No.'
But just because he didn't say, 'Tbh, they probably did show their friends their new shit right after they got it.' you took that as an opportunity to jump in and do the whole, 'You didn't specify exactly when they were going to show the presents to their friends so I DIDN'T SAY THAT THEY WERE NEVER GOING TO'

You clearly never actually read what I said, or just never paid attention. Before social media, sure, they'd show their friends some of their shit eventually, but the majority of people wouldn't open their present, and run in to the streets to show everyone what they got. With social media, presents will be opened and the first thing that's done is photo's or posts on social media.

Nocebo wrote Of course kids would go out into the streets to show their friends their new toys on Christmas day. How do I know this? I grew up before the social media explosion and that's exactly what we did. You were wrong, accept it or find a better analogy.

Lmfao. I, too, was around for Christmas' before social media, my opinion is based on my experience and I'm absolutely not wrong for having an opinion.

Nocebo wrote It is natural in this day and age for people to want to show off what they got. What isn't natural is the fact that people will get jealous because of it [and i'm not saying you are in case you decide to go on the defensive about that too...] Nature isn't to blame for the jealousy around Christmas. Capitalism, the media, and advertising are.

"I wouldn't really say it's "natural". "

That's my exact words, it's pretty sad that you're trying to argue over that, and the fact that I have an opinion.

To clarify, I'm not talking about people who maybe tell their friends what they got. I, too, would probably mention in conversation with my friends what I got as a gift, but what I don't like, is those annoying people on social media, who post a shit ton of photo's/posts or try to brag.

How did you get attacked, it's a difference of opinion which you tried to shoot down from the minute someone challenged your opinion.

Biebs, you do understand that your opinions aren't immune from criticism just because they're your opinions? Right?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you were sat outside the average teenager's house looking through their windows watching them open their presents and seeing exactly when they decide to take a picture of their presents.

And who cares? So they take a picture as soon as they get it. It gets it out of the way and then they can focus on using it. Maybe it's their way of showing appreciation. If I got a friend a present and the first thing they did was share that with the world I'd know I had got them a pretty good present. Sooner or later, who cares? Why does it matter when they take the pictures?

Lmfao. I, too, was around for Christmas' before social media, my opinion is based on my experience and I'm absolutely not wrong for having an opinion.

See, now I'm going to do what you did to GTT, but I'm actually going to do it right.
I never said you were wrong for having an opinion. I said your opinion was wrong. Pretty big distinction there.

It's obvious that anecdotes aren't going to get us anywhere, but it's also quite obvious that just like there are people who won't post their stuff all over social media, there were also kids who would run out to show their friends their new things right after they had opened their presents.
Your analogy doesn't work because it doesn't show any difference between what was happening before social media with presents and after social media with presents.

I never once said someone can't do what they want, so don't try to twist my words and make it look like that, it's pretty pathetic.

I didn't say you did? What? I specifically said, 'well done' for providing the nuance your posts needed and actually stating that opinion.

"I wouldn't really say it's "natural". "

That's my exact words, it's pretty sad that you're trying to argue over that, and the fact that I have an opinion.

Are you actually going to provide a reason why it's not 'natural' or are you just going to keep saying over and over again that it isn't natural?
I chose the word 'natural' specifically because you hadn't given any reasons why it isn't natural.
And well done for actually responding to my points, rather than just getting even more defensive and addressing the fact that I'm saying you're getting defensive.

To clarify, I'm not talking about people who maybe tell their friends what they got. I, too, would probably mention in conversation with my friends what I got as a gift, but what I don't like, is those annoying people on social media, who post a shit ton of photo's/posts or try to brag.

And I've already said that pretty much everyone agrees with you there. The problem is that OP isn't talking about that and you didn't make that opinion clear in your earlier posts, like I said earlier, which is why you're getting hate.

I don't like people bragging but on the other hand if someone is generous enough to spend lots of money on someone else then maybe i can understand them wanting people to see what they have done

I stopped reading after this, because you're trying to act as if I'm being racist, or homophobic, or something ridiculous and literally just trying to twist my words so that you can have an argument. That's pretty sad.

Do you think before social networking that kids would run out in the streets and start showing everyone their new shit? No.

It absolutely pisses me off when Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram etc are riddled with pictures of presents and shit that I don't care about. Or those stupid ass girls posting shit like "the boy did good" because their boyfriend wasted a shit ton of money on something shiny for them.

Um yes, I think actually, they would.

Perhaps you should read what I'm saying before you reply playing the victim card.
You're not a bad person, you're just wrong. Your opinion is wrong, in my opinion. You have the right to defend your opinion to criticism just as I have the right to criticize your opinion.

If you had read my post you would see that I agree with you on that.
That is not the problem with what you are saying. If you're going to reply to me then actually read what I'm saying.

and nobody is twisting your words, but even if they were, not even reading what someone is saying to you and then replying is worse.

My opinion s not wrong, it's mine. You also said in your next paragraph that you agree with me, so you're literally just contradicting yourself now lmfao. Perhaps you should take a page from your own book and "read what I'm saying before you reply"? You know, instead of twisting what I said to try and make me look like the bad guy so that you can have a petty argument on the internet to boost your ego.

Nocebo wrote not even reading what someone is saying to you and then replying is worse.

No, it's not. You're literally just flaming and trying to start an argument lmfao. It's sad that you have nothing better do to at Chrsitmas. Go find some one else who gives a shit.

Your opinion is yours and it is wrong. You can both have an opinion and have that opinion be wrong. How can you not understand this?

You can also agree with some of what someone is saying and disagree with some other parts of what they are saying, which is what I am doing with you. But you would know all of this if you had just read my replies. I am reading your replies and I'm responding to all of what you are saying, you are just being too lazy to do me the same courtesy, and are trying to turn it all back on me.

I am actually amazed that you are being so defensive and ignorant that you won't even read what I'm saying.
You're right, it's Christmas, I have better things to do. Bye.
