Campaigning in Martin Luther King Jr.'s hometown, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Monday sought to position himself as a political heir of the slain civil rights leader.

The Vermont senator said that while King is remembered mostly for his efforts on racial equality, he should be more fully understood as a "revolutionary" who spoke out against "the entire establishment" on matters from race relations to economic and foreign policy.

"The truth is he did much more than just fight segregation and racism," Sanders told more than 5,000 supporters at the Fox Theatre in downtown Atlanta.

Sanders continued with a lengthy history lesson seemingly aimed at both the black voters he must win over to catch Hillary Rodham Clinton and the younger, white voters who dominated the raucous Fox assembly.

I'm not 'one of those idiots who is voting for Trump'. Sorry to disappoint.

Why don't you like Bernie? Aside from the taxing of the rich issues we've discussed.

Prime example as to why we can't calmly talk about religion or politics on this site, because people will flame from the jump.

Grow up.

I'm not voting for anyone. I just think Trump is an idiot and anyone who votes for him is an idiot. I can say the same about all the candidates. Bernie is just the only candidate that has interesting stories on him.

I fundamentally disagree with socialism on every level.

Our country runs partially on socialism.

Things that started because of socialism:

    40 hour work week
    Minimum wage
    Unemployment
    Social Security

Bernie doesn't really classify himself as a Socialist, he classifies himself as a Democratic Socialist. Also, you're saying that you wouldn't want FREE public schooling? Sure, we may pay more in taxes but that's life. It's better than being taxed for pointless entities like paying taxes on prisoners.

Democratic socialism is a political ideology advocating a democratic political system alongside a socialist economic system, involving a combination of political democracy with social ownership of the means of production. Although sometimes used synonymously with "socialism", the adjective "democratic" is often added to distinguish itself from the MarxistLeninist brand of socialism, which is widely viewed as being non-democratic.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] definition:
Socialism is a social and economic system characterised by social ownership and democratic control of the means of production, as well as a political theory and movement that aims at the establishment of such a system. "Social ownership" may refer to public ownership, cooperative ownership, citizen ownership of equity, or any combination of these. Although there are many varieties of socialism and there is no single definition encapsulating all of them, social ownership is the common element shared by its various forms

Basically the same exact thing just a different way of thinking about it. Bernie

It wouldn't be free. I'd be paid for by the tax payers. There are already programs in place to get free college degrees, including free doctorates. These programs are available to literally any young person willing to work for it, regardless of race or gender.

Socialist economics is entirely what I disagree with.
