I don't think I've ever did a rant on here about anything on here before, but there's a first for everything!

So people might remember me posting about getting a job a month ago, it was all going well, working while learning (Still am) I have worked like 5 maybe 6 shifts since then, mainly 3/4 hours a shift, then I asked to get more hours as I need to pay for things and they said yeah I will get a phone call during the week... no phone call. I ask the next time I was in, one of the managers said to leave it with him, it has been 2 weeks... nothing yet... so then I find out that the 2 other people who started as the same time as me are working 2/3 shifts a week, one even got a 9 hour shift. So last week I got a text from a colleague to cover his shift so I took it as it was more learning and extra money, then I worked my shift later on in the week, I was meant to cover another shift last night but was texted an hour before I was due to start saying I can take it off as it wasn't busy, I understand that, but the last time I was working was Thursday for 5 hours, fair enough, 5 hours pay.... but no more work for 10 days and its a 5 hour shift while the other 2 people haven't asked for more shifts are getting them and are making mistakes just like me. I don't think this is fair to be honest, and they expect me to learn and gain experience on 5 hours a week. Also sometimes I have to get customers desserts and I have had no training on how to do them and I have had to ask other waiters to do them for me while I watch and learn but I've finally learnt to do most of them, but it's still a disgrace on how they're giving me so little hours.

I don't normally like to rant about anything to anyone but I feel I need some opinions on this issue.

I am currently updating my CV to try and gain another job somewhere else to get more pay as 3-5 hours pay a week isn't enough, especially leading up to Christmas.

Thank you for your opinions on this

Are you putting in enough work,Or maybe you asking is making them not pick you.You should just find another job man because 5 hours a week won't make you learn nothing.

Seems to me that the company has poor management, if you are passing on messages constantly and they are not doing anything about it, that sounds like poor communication.

Honestly man I had a similar problem as yours but mine was completely the opposite were I was getting to many hours and working 6 days a week and 8 hour shifts while still going to school(High school) what I did was talk to the manager directly and told him straight forward they need to cut my hours since school is my main priority best advice I can give you is to keep talking to your manager until they feel annoyed if it doesn't work out find a new job, jobs like those are unhealthy considering your not being trained and working only 5 hours a week

Yeah I'm for sure putting in enough work, I dont walk about and ignore everyone, I look and if anything needs done I do it and help the food be taken to customers! There is 4 managers and I asked one and he said yeah the top one loves when people ask for more hours instead of just be giving them so I should get them, I'm going to find another one as well as keep this one even though its low hours, its still something but not enough to learn or have some sort of independence

When I was in like signing H&S and everything like that, the trainee manager said if we need more hours just ask and we can get them... that was obviously bs as I have asked twice and no more hours

Here is what I see. Often times when they need one position filled, they will hire 2 or 3 people, and find the best one out of the group. They feel the other 2 people work better than you, so you are probably on the chopping block to get fired. Yeah, it sucks, but that's how it is. I may be completely wrong, but that's how I see it.
