Why not? It requires a lot of skill and hard work. It may not be physically enduring but definitely is mentally. The mind games people play at a competitive level and the amount of skill they have is ridiculous. It is as much as a sport as ones with physical activity. The people who are professional have been training for years and years and most of them have been players for over 7 years. It requires effort, a lot of time and dedication and tactics.

Most players spend over 15 hours weekly going over demos of their games, watching other teams tactics and testing new tactics to beat the opponents so they don't get read in game.

It should definitely be considered a sport in my opinion, especially with the increasing viewer counts these tournaments are recieving.
