Well, today was my first day at university, and it was horrible. Everyone seemed to have already stuck like glue, and I'm just sitting here like 'this is fun'. I tried talking to people but as soon as the class is over groups are formed and began to walk off.

From the first day experience it seems it will be challenging to make friends from other classes as people want to become friends in their class.

What I'm basically saying has anyone been in this situation at university and know how to help with this. At school i didn't have this issue since I made friends as i went with people i knew already which made it easier.

I haven't been in this situation myself, but I would say just carry on talking to people in your class and maybe ask "Is it ok if I hang around with you".. They will most likely say yes

Perhaps you can offer help to them if they need it to try and spark up a conversation.

i personally wouldn't know i have never had this issue and found it rather easy to make new friends at the start of university, which is really really strange because i used to have issues with being able to communicate with people. After that first year i became a lot more comfortable talking to new people. Uni changes you for the better )

I mean if your in the same class surely you must share some interests?

me and you both
I've been at college for almost 4 years and haven't gotten one girlfriend or friend

Seeing girls walking around having fun and realizing you'll never get them is hell on earth not to mention the countless hours of studying and work you have to do

Some fools like to say it will get better but how? Are you trying to tell me when I leave college a place where I'm surrounded by girls and peers my own age that I will somehow get girls and friends when I'm working my life away at a job that is even harder than college hahahahahhahahah life is a scam

Though I don't start university for two and a half weeks, I think the experience I've acquired over various summer schools and law networking events has taught me how to deal with what you're going through.

It's very easy to get complacent with the group of friends you have from earlier stages in your academic journey. That safety tape is no longer there for you. As such, you've got to take a deep breath and just start talking to a group of people. Talk to people you're in lectures with. Talk to anyone and everyone. If people have already started to establish groups, the onus is on you to approach them. If it feels a little less daunting, approach people that also haven't found a group yet. Ultimately most people are in the same boat and so you won't get ridiculed for trying to make friends with people.

m8 its only your first day, just go up to people and introduce yourself.
You will have plenty of opportunities to make m8s in Seminars/lectures! - are you living in University accommodation? Literally the easiest place to make m8s

Finding common ground is easy, just speak to anyone and everyone and most importantly don't giv a single fk when doing so ada)

edit; bruh you are a Man united fan, football is like the #1 common ground convo starter
p.s. What uni are you at? If we're at the same lets 420kappa123
