So I'm an 18 year old student starting university next month. I'm quite a small guy (5'8 or 5'9 and just under 9 stone). I'm currently jogging two or three times a week to begin setting a healthy foundation (you see, I've spent the last few months consuming far far too much alcohol and eating far far too many takeaways).

I'm hoping to get a little bit of a grip on the foods I'm consuming and hopefully put on some muscle as I'm sick of being a little guy.

I was hoping for some advice as to how a noob would go about this.

I'd be grateful for any advice on how to set up a diet appropriate to this goal, what I should be doing in the gym (bare in mind, I will need to start a little weak.. little guy remember) and whether I should be investing in supplements/protein powder/etc.

Only worthwhile pieces of information I can think to mention as of now are: I can't eat eggs and I'm asthmatic.

Any advice/resources would be appreciated

If you want to gain muscle, drink protein shake, if you don't want to use protein shakes. Eat loads of meats and potatoes, or chips (Not fried).

If you're just starting gym, use your own body as wight. Example (push ups).

Well cutting down the amount of fats you eat will be a good start and upping the cardio and weight training, after a few weeks intensify the cardio to shorter but faster training (Only do the max intensity to control your asthma, don't want that from stopping you doing any training at all, take 30 seconds to a minutes break to control your breathing) keeping the fat and Carbs lows to lose the fat but keeping the protein high enough to keep as much muscle mass as possible. Foods to eat are, Oatmeal/Porridge for breakfast or depending on your macros through out the day pancakes with some fruit on the side. Lunch could be a smoothie, chicken, turkey, or Fish with veggies (Turkey is lower in everything so its better for cutting weight) erm for dinner same again and maybe a diet whey shake for something before bed to keep the appetite up, bare in mind I'm just learning all this nutrition and training so sorry if it's not a massive help but I hope I've helped a little, good luck on your journey man
