Hello all, I've come with some questions about the MSI motherboard I mentioned in the title... the MSI Z97-G45

Questions:

  • How good is this board?
  • It is 2 way sli ready?
  • Is this board Windows 10 ready?
  • Would you rather get this board, or the Asus Maximus Vii Hero? (Going for a red/black build and I'm deciding between these two boards)

I'm trying to choose between the G45 and the Maximus and am leaning towards the G45 at this point because the Maximus keeps selling out on Amazon where I'm purchasing these parts. I just am trying to get things locked down because I've been doing a butt ton of research on these boards trying to get things done and ready to order for my build, but there are some things I just can't find or don't know for sure.

Thank you so much for your time, appreciate it!

They are both good boards however the Asus board seem to have more features at a higher price tag. One thing with the MSI board that can be off putting is the Killer Ethernet.. I've heard bad things about it but cant speak from experience as I don't own a MSI board with Killer Ethernet.

Both boards are SLI/Crossfire ready and the Asus board supports m.2 SSD's which are quicker than SATA SSD's.

Both Boards will support Windows 10 and I would be surprised if they didn't considering I'm using Windows 10 on my mobo which is fairly old now.

Edit: If you want to compared the features of both boards then you can do so on [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] , just tick both boards and at the bottom click compare.

Thanks so much for the answers man! I'm hoping the MSI board is as good as the reviews say because honestly I like it better. I have heard some people really don't like MSI and have also heard about the issues with the older generations and installments of their Killer Ethernet. I think I should be alright. The board has a 4.7/5.0 on Amazon and even though the Asus board has more features, I'm content with the price, reviews, and look of the MSI board.

Guess I just needed to be reassured lol. Thanks again.

It's not going to make a huge difference which motherboard you go with. Don't go with the VII Hero, it'll just be a waste of money, trust me, I have one. I had a Z97-G43 which was a perfectly good motherboard, pretty similar to the G45, but without SLI support. The G45 will do you well.

The only thing I don't like about it, is the poo brown colour.

It's not a solid black sort of a Dark brown kinda hard to notice unless you look hard, what's your budget their maybe a better option.

I don't actually have a budget for the motherboard. I mean, I don't want to just blow money, but if one option is better and costs a little more, that's okay.

Z97-G45 will do. It's not a bright brown colour, it looks pretty dark but it is brown. It's one thing I hate, but a lot of motherboards are like that.

Yeah, I saw what you and Alexyy were talking about after I went back and looked real hard at it. Do you think it will show more if I have LEDs in my case? I'm wanting to put LEDs in there, but won't if it will make it show the brown color more lol

Meh, depends on you. It might not bother you as much so you might not notice it. Brown/navy motherboards are really ugly IMO, reason I upgraded my motherboard was simply because I didn't like the brown colour, but it doesn't tend to bother other people as much.
