Not true. As Zayev said, it all depends on the chip. Just because you have an overkill motherboard doesnt mean it will get good overclocks. It mostly pure luck.

If he wants a little increase in video render times then he probably will.

I currently run at 4.5GHz with voltage at 1.2V, not a lot more that standard for the 6300. A friend of mine has a stable 4.5GHz on his 8320 at 1.37v.

My mate on an 8320 has 4.9Ghz stable but the minute he touches 5GHz things start to go a little tipsy.

Hey I didnt know this topic was gonna have so many replies! haha! But, I do not know how to overclock so I probably will not be overclocking but I want a very good cpu for the price and a graphics card that can handle gta 5 and cod at best settings! And I dont want my computer to lag or anything! And I want the price to be around 1,000-1100 USD including a Monitor, a CPU Cooler, SSD, and a Case Fan! Hopefully this will help! Thanks!

@Z97 do some research. You have some really odd misconceptions about GPUs, and overclocking. First of all, you suggested a 4790k with a H97 motherboard so OP would not be able to overclock the 4790k. Also, you say "he could get that i7 to 4.8Ghz with like the x61" but you recommended an unlocked chip with stock cooler? So, even if you did include a proper motherboard, OP wouldn't have the cooling to OC the 4790k as far as he could get it. As for getting it to 4.8GHz, I have no idea where you heard that. The 4790k is a 4GHz CPU, it turbo's to 4.4GHz. That's it. There's no guarantee you'll even be able to push it past 4.4GHz.
