The E3-1231 v3 is a 4790.

So the difference is extremely minimal, I'm getting a 1231v3 soon.

They looked VERY the same, thats why i said theres no point swapping a 4790k for one.

It would perform better in gaming. The hyper-threading in the Xeon also help with video editing. Since he is not overclocking, the i7 is a waste unless he will in the future.

It is also much cheaper for the same performance.

Since there is an $80 price difference between the 2, the Xeon should be #1 everytime.

The i7's are so expensive and all for a iGPU that no one will ever use.

So OP: The Xeon has my vote.

But he could get that i7 to 4.8Ghz with like the x61... which if he saves a bit he could get that.

The i7 has the same cores, cache, socket, features(ish) the i7 can overclock like a bitch.

"the i7 can overclock like a bitch" depends on chip, not every CPU will overclock the same. I have known people get like 200mhz extra out of theirs and that's it, yet some get an easy 5GHz.

The i7 isnt for gaming though. Sure it can be overclocked immensely, but if he is only gaming it is not worth it one bit.

The Xeon is also much cheaper.

Well. With a good combo of motherboard and chip then your all good.

I need a PC Build for Graphic Designing, Video Editing, and a little bit of gaming!

He sounds like he wants it mainly for editing.
