Need some help upgrading

Ok so this is so sort of a long story but i will give the story to you in bullets
1. Found a guy on craigslist to trade my Xbox one for his Gaming Pc
2.Had him install my 500 gb hard drive
3.told him i would combine them to make a bigger harddrive and he said dont do it because the HDD i had in is Sata 2 and mine is Sata 6
4.Got home started installing my steam games and realized they had very slow busy writing to disk times and i assumed it was the old hard drive
5.then i tried to literally drag all my files from old Hdd to the new hdd and tried to boot into it and i was stuck at a black screen
6. So i rebooted into my old hdd
7. But now i want to upgrade to windows 10 but have it on the new hdd
8. i just want fresh windows 10 cause i will reinstall all cause i have a virus i dont know how to get off
Please help + rep cause i have some

I can't help much but when you dragged all of your files over to your new hdd your windows probably crashed and you will probably need to get a new os(on a usb or dvd) and do a fresh install.

do i have to upgrade first and then do usb recovery?
I can't help much but when you dragged all of your files over to your new hdd your windows probably crashed and you will probably need to get a new os(on a usb or dvd) and do a fresh install.
